come as you are.

a kilometer up the road from the historic medieval mining town of Kremnica, you’ll find The Magical Paths nestled among towering pines, on a property dotted with old, twisted apple trees. as soon as we first set eyes on this home, we knew it was a place where we would welcome others, a place that needed to be shared. guests who come to stay with us have the opportunity to slow down, to live simply (albeit even for only a weekend, sometimes), and to marvel at and enjoy nature.

throughout the course of the year, you’ll find a modest selection of apples, walnuts, pears, plums, blackberries, strawberries, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, snap peas, string beans, pumpkins, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, garlic, and/or onions, as well as a variety of herbs, growing around our property. our rooster will rouse you with his crowing, which continues all day. you’ll hear our hens happily clucking and chirping away as you come and go, hoping you’re bringing one of their favorite treats, like some slugs or a fresh slice of watermelon.. our 4 cats will come for belly rubs and wind themselves between your legs. there’s always something going on here, and it’s that vibrancy, that feeling that life is radiating in all directions, that makes our house feel like a home.

Kremnica is an idyllic place to visit—it's not only home to the world's longest continuously operating mint, but also a fantastically central location for a whole host of year-round activities. the town has some lovely museums and attractions, a few bakeries & sweet shops, several restaurants, and three small supermarkets. behind our home are hiking trails that are accessible straight from our property, including one that leads to Kremnica’s kalvária and its sweeping views of the surrounding hills. if you love exploring, there’s no shortage of activities here—within an hour’s drive, we have caves, hiking/biking trails, natural thermal spas, castles, and other historic towns. what’s more, as we’re at [what some consider] the geographical center of Europe, it’s a convenient place from which to travel to other central European countries and beyond.

    • it’s wildly important to us that this apartment rental align with our values and our mindfulness regarding how we choose to live on this earth—it is our sincere hope that it is never a source of waste or inefficiency, and we ask that when visitors come to stay, they hold nature in the highest regard and have an eco-conscious attitude. this is not a hotel or hostel—it is our home, and the energy surrounding it is precious to us. in order to live in harmony with nature, we must ask that everyone be mindful of their choices while here.

    • we’re proud to say that the apartment is partially run on solar energy and that, aside from the kitchen and bathroom renovations that we did when we bought our home, every single item in the apartment is something that’s been reused or purchased secondhand. as such, the apartment isn’t luxurious, but it is comfortable, spacious, and clean.
